Cuvée Maurice

Maurice Pitrou (1967-1984), an organic pioneer well ahead of his time

In 1967, Maurice Pitrou converted the estate to organic farming, well before organic became fashionable. This extra-dry cuvée that bears his name carries on the gesture: low residual sugar, sharp and bitter varieties, méthode ancestrale. The same honesty. A dry, thirst-quenching tension that never cheats.

Méthode ancestrale: double fermentation, natural mousse formed in bottle, with no pasteurisation or added CO2. Fermentation is pushed hard to preserve tension, carried by the wild yeasts alone, built up in the cellar over decades.

A blend of sharp and bitter orchard varieties, chosen for their low residual sugar, grown on clay-limestone soil along the Muance river. No added sulfites.

Maurice Pitrou is the estate's second generation. In 1967, while conventional farming was triumphant, he converted the whole farm to organic agriculture. Not as a trend, since the trend did not yet exist. The AB organic label would not appear until 1985.

This cuvée carries on his gesture. Fermentation pushed hard to keep the tension, cellar yeasts, no additions, no corrections. The apple as it is, in its most direct form.

Yes. The estate has been organic since 1967. All our ciders and perries are free of added sulfites, 100% pure juice, made using the traditional method with the cellar's wild yeasts.

Store the bottles lying down, away from light, so the cork stays moist. Each product page states the serving temperature. Age-worthy cuvées, such as Jean-René or Extralucidre, gain complexity after a few years in the cellar.

Payment is made by card via Stripe. The transaction is encrypted and we never store any card data.

Our bottles are certified for reuse. You can bring them back to a collection point in the national network: they are washed, then reused as they are. It's the most effective way to cut a bottle's footprint.
