Our commitments

A certain idea
of cider

Quality, legacy, integrity. Three commitments that have guided our work since 1923.

Cider, differently

For a long time, cider was seen as a simple drink: cheap, kept for a few occasions each year like Candlemas, Epiphany or a Sunday crepe, rarely given the respect reserved for wine. That's a view we don't share.

France has the finest orchard in Europe, and cider and Calvados deserve a real place in French gastronomic culture. We work on it every day.

Here is what we stand for.

Quality

Making a great cider starts in the orchard. Like a winegrower with a vineyard, we prune each tree to open its canopy: so sunlight reaches the blossom in spring, the fruit in summer, and the autumn harvest brings us good apples. Because there's no good cider without good apples.

Quality continues in the cellar. Like wine, cider is a complex product, the result of an alcoholic fermentation and a malolactic conversion that must be mastered, so the subtle aromas come through on the palate of whoever drinks it.

And quality finally comes through in the gesture: the bottle held in hand, the care in presentation, the invitation to pleasure even before opening. Making products that are beautiful and good, in keeping with our nature.

Our ambition: to create fine ciders with a place on the finest tables.

Legacy

Four generations since 1923. The estate has passed down through the family, and with it a craft refined generation after generation. Abel, Maurice, Claude, Jean-René. Today, Thibault.

We don't make cider the way a new brand tries to break into a market. We make it because it's what our family has done for nearly a hundred years, and because we want to do it better than the generation before us.

Passing it on also means sharing what we learn. Visits to the estate, meetings in the cellar, tribute cuvées: all of this builds a connection between us and those who enjoy our products.

Integrity

In a world where barely six months go by without a new health scandal (pesticides, PFAS, cadmium), integrity starts with being honest about how the products you consume are made.

At Domaine des Cinq Autels, this is our promise: no pesticides on the trees, no additives during fermentation, no added sulfites. Pure nature in the bottle, for you and for the land.

Respect nature. Respect the product. Respect the customers who trust us. That is the essence of our work.
